Closing off cat door

Hi all,

A previous owner of our house had a cat door in the back door and after removing a rotten plywood sheet covering it, I am now wondering with what do I fill this hole? Leaving it open had resulted in Houtrot and bugs living there.
And what is the best way of covering it up?

Best way to repair is to remove all the rot wood around the hole and inside the hole. Then use a wood rot primer to stop the wood from rot further. After that you can glue a price of hard wood in the hole with wood rot filler (2 component product). After that you can use filler to make it look good and use a primer and paint to finish the paint work on the door.

The fastest way is to cut the hole square just a little bigger into the fresh wood.

This makes it easier to make a piece hard wood to fill the hole. You always cut the hole to the size of the filler piece and not the other way.
